Dice
Helbane
Kiss
Killian
~With a dramatic stretch and a yawn, Dice descended the stairs leading from the quarters above and rubbed the back of his neck. His stomach agrowl with hungry and his face showing signs of being still sleepy yet, even though it was well into the after noon. Even his hair was sticking up in the back, unbeknownst to him. He passed the windows going toward the exit and squinted at the amount of light entering his eyes.~
Helbane was, as usual, buried in a book. The noise around her didn't even so much as phase her. It was silent in her own little world. There was an empty glass of water beside her book, but no signs of food. It hadn't been brought to her yet. With her elbows propped up, quite unladylike, on the surface of the table, Helbane continued reading, not even aware her lunch hadn't been brought out to her yet.
~Squinting as he was, he managed to catch the corner of a table with his hip and made a pretty good crashing and sliding sound of wood across the floor. He paused and bit the inside of his cheek in the sudden surprise of pain, pressing his hand to his hip and dancing around a little~
The loud bang was enough to irritate Helbane, and she glanced up at the source to see an idiot bumbling around. With an aggravated shake of her head, Helbane returned her eyes to her book once more, but not before muttering about how it was too early for drunkards.
~His dancing and hopping ended but he continued to rub his hip. Soon that pain went away and his eyes got used to the light of day coming in. He stood where he was and looked around, scratching the center of his chest with one hand. His skin seemed to itch first thing in the morning. His dirty yellow eyes wandered around the room for a minute before finding something interesting. He had barely heard the girl's words and grinned quietly to himself. He headed toward the bar, taking the route that went behind her chair, and sneakily closed her book with a quick slight-of-hand motion, with out losing a stride in his step. He sat at a stool with his back to Helbane, and leaned over the bar, looking for some service~
Helbane's eye's snapped up, as the drunken idiot caused her to loose her page. Of course, he hadn't even paused so she was left twisting around in her chair to glare at his back.
Scowling, she readjusted herself so she was facing the right way, and quietly murmured words that would get lost within the noise of the Tavern, if only the tavern were actually busy at this hour.
As usual, she couldn't remember the correct words, which only irritated her more as she began manually flipping through the pages in attempt to find her correct spot. One word, however, didn't escape her memory.
~Not finding anyone, he leaned back again and boredly swung side to side in his chair. Hearing the name calling he couldn't help but chuckle quietly.~
~Dice looked over his shoulder and offered a cheesy-but-charming playful grin.~
~Well aware that it was well into the morning, he offered his greeting anyway~
Kiss was sitting in the Aeren Isle Tavern at some point yesterday when she over heard of something familiar. Overjoyed at the thought that maybe she came close in finding who she seeks, she decides to plan her actions for tomorrow. That morning, she awoke ot find the Ferry that will lead her to the Gryphon woods and had spent the entire morning wandering through them and now nearly exhausted and without much of success, decides to spend a few coins here to get something small to eat and some water. She won't give up. Looking around upon her entrance, she maneuvers to a table.
Helbane's body argued with her mind. She was angry with the fool for his distractions and yet her body was reacting the same way it did when anyone bothered addressing her. Even now, she could feel the heat rise in her cheeks.
Shaking her head, Helbane hunched over book again, determined to pick up where she left off, but after a few sentences, it was clear she wasn't absorbing anything she read. With a frustrated sigh, Helbane then bit down roughly on her lower lip and tried to focus... A moment of silence ticked by, and then another, and finally, eye's still on the page, Helbs spoke.
Alright, she meant it to sound rough and cruel, but Helbane just wasn't accustomed to talking to other people. She only addressed what half a dozen people her entire time within Enchantica... Thus her words were quiet, soft... Annoyingly polite.
With her attention already distracted, Helbane spotted another entering and wondered, not for the first time, if it was someone whom would actually serve her.
~He watched her quietly and took in how annoyed she was. She could sure loosen up a little, he thought to himself.~
~He spotted his reflect and ran his fingers down the back of his head, aiming to fix his hair in the back or at least get it to lay flat. He wasn't bothered by her words in the slightest, impossible to be offended this soon after just waking up. He leaned back to rest his back against the bar, tilted his chin up and to the side, and spoke calmly in a comfident and friendly tone.~
~He smiled that playful smile again and crossed his arms over his chest, tucking his hands into the crook of his elbow.~
Even if she were able to hide her expression, there was absolutely no way Helbane could hide the instant flush that spread from her cheeks right down to her toes.
No one had ever said something like that to her before, and though she struggled to fight it, a small smile broke free of her will. This only further irritated her. Afterall, Helbs liked to have control.
She focused on breathing for a moment, and then when she was sure her voice wouldnt' quiver, spoke to the man over her shoulder again. There was absolutely no way she was turning around to face him looking like an apple.
After a few moments of contimplating and noticing you two. She decides it's high time that he starts asking around for what she seeks. Perchance someone may know the demon that she seeks. Rising once more up, she approaches you two on an account that she hopes she isn't disturbing and quietly stands there with her hands folded in front of her. Her dark eyes looking both at you and the gentlemen.
She then pulls out a small sketch of a man. She had paid someone nearly eight months ago to draw him up. She couldn't draw. The image was of a man with very masculine and instinctive face and a hawkish broken like nose and intensive eyes.
~Dice was tall but light on his feet. With out her looking at him she might be a little surprised that he was already near her table. He turned the chair around backwards and sat in it with a somewhat ungraceful plop, draping his arms over top the back of the chair.~
he said. He put his fist out in front of him and slung out his first two fingers, between them was a large gold die. He moved both his hands together and then apart swiftly and sent the die spinning on the table, whirling around slowly in a circle.~
~He tilted his head a little, sending his messy brown hair slowly to one side, and smiled just a little.~
~Not feeling interrupted at all, he studied the sketch the woman was offering. He remained quiet for a moment, thinking about it. Something seemed familiar about the sketch but he couldn't quite place it. Had he seen this face before, he wondered~
As he seemed to make himself comfortable at her table, Helbane instantly reached out, her hands resting on her book to ensure it was there. Books comforted her.
The way he sat was rather shocking. He didn't position himself carefully in his chair like everyone else. Infact, it only served to intruge her moreso.
Her eye's were instantly drawn to the die as it spun around on the table top. Quickly she removed her book so it wouldn't cease the journey. She held it a little off to the side, in midair, her eye's never once leaving the die until it ceased spilling.
Helbane was so focused on the die that she hadn't heard the woman approach.
First, her cheeks fumed moreso when the strange man called her Angel Eyes, something she'd never heard before in her life. Thankfully, she didn't have time to answer for the newly arrived woman was speaking. Speaking?
Poor Helbane didn't catch a word she said, but it didn't seem to matter. A small parchment with a drawing on it was fluttering in sight, and Helbane pointedly refused to answer Dice's question on account that she was studying the picture.
Mind you, she was having a little trouble seeing it, embarrassment in hopes the woman hadn't heard his Angel Eyes comment. She didn't speak, but rather shook her head at the woman with her drawing. She'd never seen the man before...
It was probably a good thing she hadn't heard what the woman said. Helbane didn't believe in deamons and would have probably began a lecture on child tales.
Awaiting quietly she notices your odd behavior of flaming face. However, Kiss doesn't seem to mind though as she looks towards the man to await for his answer once she saw you shake your head.
She courages him, in hopes that perhaps he has seen the man.
~He shrugged a little.~
~He looked at the sketch one more time before turning his dirty-yellow colored eyes up to the woman asking.~
With both the man and woman in conversation, Helbane felt a wash of relief course through her and the flush in her cheeks slowly died away. She wasn't very good with people. At least, not normal people.
For a moment, Helbane considered turning her nose back into her book, but worried it might insult them or distract their conversation so instead, she placed her book back down on the table infront of her and instead reached out to take the man's die which still sat, now unmoving, on the table.
She licks her lips a bit as she looks down before putting the sketch away.
She gives a courtsey to both you and the lady.
~He didn't know what else to say really, and glanced at Helbane. In another slight of hand motion he produced another die, not as dramatically as the first time, and held one finger on one corner of the die. The other corner lay on the table and he looked over at Helbanes face.~
he said quietly to her, and then flicked one corner of the die, sending it spinning. He lookedup at the woman.~
Almost ready to leave, she stops and looks back to you with her dark eyes as she pushes some loose strands of black hair from her light tanned face. Her face becomes a mask of firmness, although her dark eyes seem to look slightly fearful of the thought.
Helbane watched as he repeated the trick with yet another die. Then, whilst the woman was speaking, sensing his attention shifted, Helbane gave it a shot herself, only to find the die not move quite like it was supposed to. He made it look so easy.
With a small smirk only for herself, Helbane clamped her palm over the die so it couldn't be seen and muttered quietly under her breath.
"Shirki muan"
Then she removed her hand and slipped it underneath the table, out of sight. With her eyes still on the unmoving die, which now lay on the table, Helbane began drawing small circles beneath the table with her index finger, the dice obeying her command and spinning, it appeared, of it's own accord.
~He shivered a little at the woman's grave declaration and decided not to say anything about it. It wasn't his place to get in the way of such matters and it sounded like she was far too determined anyways to ever be swayed. He turned his attention back to the table top and saw the dice spinning just like his, and smiled contently.~
~Suddenly the die she was using magic on would start to bounce however, and shake. It would stop spinning and start floating in the air, its black dots glowing red. They weren't normal ordinary dice and magic being used on them would have an immediate reaction. His eyes shot open huge and suddenly he snatched the die out of the air, and the other one off the table for that matter.~
~He looked at the dice in his hand, held it up, but the flashing had stopped by now~
For a moment or two she stayed to watch the die do something freaky like before she ventures off and away. Allowing the two have their peace. Having nestled in a chair near the hearth where it's nice and warm. She soon orders some bread and cheese and dried meat along with water. The main thing of her diet for the last several months. It was cheap and easy to use and will last for a good while.
Helbane, too, was rather shocked at the reaction from the dice, but she didn't show it. Afterall, every single one of Helbanes magical attempts have failed, thus why would the dice be any different.
To her, it was just another reminder that she didn't know her magic. Something only Killian had ever actually known about. She just assumed the reaction to the dice was because of her own errors, not because the dice were anything but ordinary.
Her voice was meek, quiet. Just barely above a whisper, something Helbane often did when she made a mistake. It was either withdraw or lash out. Seeing as they were in a public place, and she didn't know this man, Helbane withdrew.
She picked up her book, and shoved her nose into it, holding it up so it hid her expression.
The only excuse she gave for why they acted the way they had. She wasn't reading, however, she was wondering what had happened to the die. It was a simple spell, and nothing had quite reacted that way before. What type of dice was this man carting around for heavens sake, they could blind somebody!
~He shrugged briefly, then made a fist with the dice inside his hands. He blew inside his fist and then looked at the dice. They gave a brief flash of red, both of them, letting him know nothing was wrong, before returning to the simple gold with black dots coloring. He shrugged a little and closed his hand again, the dice were discretely put away, hidden somewhere in his clothes. ~
~His thoughts briefly wandered to how he had come upon his dice, but he shoo'ed the memory away. The little cutie he was sitting with seemed more interesting anyway.~
She'd been peering over the top of her book, watching him as he closed his fingers over the dice, then brought his closed fist to his mouth. She watched still, as he peered at them again then seemed satisfied and tucked them away where only the imagination could pick up.
And trust me, it tried.
Helbane shook her head once more, as he spoke, and slowly lowered the book to her lap again, carefully closing it with one finger still tucked between the pages.
Usually, Helbane didn't bother giving her name because people just didn't care enough to know. Even the last one Helbane met hadn't asked. Actually, Helbane's eyebrows squinted as she thought, the only person who had ever wanted to know her name was Killian way back when they did that quest together. She smiled slightly, remembering, and even then probably so he would know what to call her when lecturing her.
Helbane wasn't even aware she was going to provide Dice with her name until her lips moved and she heard her words in her own ears.
She blinked. So much for mysterious... With her eye's glued to the table, she simply gave a small shrug of her shoulders.
~He felt like saying "what kind of name was that?" but didnt, instead only chuckling to himself. He leaned forward a little tried to sneak his head in her gaze.~
~He leaned back up again and rested both hands on the table's edge.~
Helbane pulled back, as he leaned forward to stick his face in her line of sight and she was surprised to find her cheeks didn't flair to life.
She wasn't entirely certain if not looking like his old friend was a compliment or an insult, though she suspected a guy like him didn't keep unpleasant friends, which left her to assume it was a way of saying she didn't look as striking.
What exactly does one say to that? SHe gave a small crooked, and nervous smile, then shrugged her shoulders.
The small teasing grin turned the corners of her lips up. Yes yes, a man would certainly find something to sate themselves in a room full of beautiful women.
~He shrugged, seeming completely uninterested.~
~If a person couldn't tell by looking at him that he wasn't the kind of guy that liked formal occasions, then they were looking at his mischeivious yellow eyes and not his commoner's clothes.~
~He reached out and bumped her elbow with his fingertips. A weird little touch of the physical that unconsciously might change an outlook from being a stranger to someone real, perhaps a friend. He noticed her smile quickly and it brought one to his own face, something he liked to see for sure.~
His touch actually shocked her more then his words. Touch. One of the most extrodinary senses an individual was blessed with. And one, to be honest, that Helbane didn't exactly get to use all that often. A strange case of small bumps broke out over her arm, starting with her elbow and quickly travelling the length of her arm until it reached her wrist. Her voice, meek, quiet.
Well, how was she to know, anyways? She never wore a gown in her life, let alone something fancy enough to actually be invited into a special occassion. Besides, Helbane didn't do too well in front of a crowd. Always wanting to liven things up, and making a mess of it, Killian had said.
Technically, she should have been studying. A mage had to memorize their spells every time they used it. It would stay fresh in their mind until they cast that spell, and then it would be gone. She spent 60 percent of her time studying.
Usually, Helbane didn't mind it. She loved reading. She loved learning new things. Entertaining things. Today, she'd make an exception. She'd just stay up all night studying. This strange company was more entertaining then rereading her book.
Instantly realizing the way it came out, and how men often used that line for pickups, Helbane bit her lower lip, gritting her teeth to force herself from looking away, and attempted to ammend her words.
~He found her social awkwardness cute and entertaining, and it only made him relax more and wear his smile longer. He brushed his fingers through his hair to move the stuff out of his eyes, and grinned contently.~
~He nodded to his words, quite liking how that sounded. So far this place was ok, not exactly action packed at least so far, but usually he could stir something up.~
Helbane gave an uncomfortable shrug of her shoulders. She didn't like talking about herself. Oh, what was going on. If he were Killian, Helbane would be.. Well, Helbane.
Forcing herself to act more normal, she raised her foot up off the ground, and instead planted it on her chair, her knee bent. Her right arm draped around her knee, trying for casual.
Babbling. Now you're babbling, you foolish girl! Just shut up already before you make a fool of yourself. Her cheeks didn't flush, but part because she was too shocked at her reaction. She really needed to get out and start socializing more often.
~He blinked and sat a little more upright, still stradling the chair.~
~He looked around breifly, realizing it was rather quiet in here, pretty much empty, then quickly looked at Helbane.~
Helbane
Kiss
Killian
~With a dramatic stretch and a yawn, Dice descended the stairs leading from the quarters above and rubbed the back of his neck. ~He shrugged a little.~
"I don't think so."
~He looked at the sketch one more time before turning his dirty-yellow colored eyes up to the woman asking.~
"I can keep an eye out. Why is it so important?"
With both the man and woman in conversation, Helbane felt a wash of relief course through her and the flush in her cheeks slowly died away. She wasn't very good with people. At least, not normal people.

"Hey I don't think you told me what your name was.. "
"You would be correct in assuming that, for I did not."
"Helbane."
She blinked. So much for mysterious... With her eye's glued to the table, she simply gave a small shrug of her shoulders.
"Helbane, huh?"
~He felt like saying "what kind of name was that?" but didnt, instead only chuckling to himself. He leaned forward a little tried to sneak his head in her gaze.~
"I once knew an old witch named Helba.. I think she died though."
~He leaned back up again and rested both hands on the table's edge.~
"You don't look anything like her though.. hah."
"I... I'm.."
What exactly does one say to that? SHe gave a small crooked, and nervous smile, then shrugged her shoulders.
"If you're looking for more ale, or food, there's a banquet sort of thing being held in the castle. I am sure you will find plenty to.. sate yourself."
The small teasing grin turned the corners of her lips up. Yes yes, a man would certainly find something to sate themselves in a room full of beautiful women.
"Oh, yeah I heard about that."
~He shrugged, seeming completely uninterested.~
"Balls and banquets aren't my thing. Too stuffy."
~If a person couldn't tell by looking at him that he wasn't the kind of guy that liked formal occasions, then they were looking at his mischeivious yellow eyes and not his commoner's clothes.~
"And since you know about it and aren't currently attending, I'm sure it's not your thing either huh?"
~He reached out and bumped her elbow with his fingertips. A weird little touch of the physical that unconsciously might change an outlook from being a stranger to someone real, perhaps a friend. He noticed her smile quickly and it brought one to his own face, something he liked to see for sure.~
"You've got something better to do?"
"No, no balls are not quite my forte."
Well, how was she to know, anyways? She never wore a gown in her life, let alone something fancy enough to actually be invited into a special occassion. Besides, Helbane didn't do too well in front of a crowd. Always wanting to liven things up, and making a mess of it, Killian had said.
"I Did have something better to do."
"Do you come here often?"
Instantly realizing the way it came out, and how men often used that line for pickups, Helbane bit her lower lip, gritting her teeth to force herself from looking away, and attempted to ammend her words.
"I do not think I've seen you before, is all. I didn't mean..."
~He found her social awkwardness cute and entertaining, and it only made him relax more and wear his smile longer. He brushed his fingers through his hair to move the stuff out of his eyes, and grinned contently.~
"Nah I don't come here very often, I sorta go where the wind takes me. Wherever the action is."
~He nodded to his words, quite liking how that sounded. So far this place was ok, not exactly action packed at least so far, but usually he could stir something up.~
"Yeah and I'm still welcome here, so I stayed the night. How often do you read your books here?"
"The Tavern? Not often at all. It is usually too crowded and I'm not welcome when it's busy. I figured with the events transpiring, everyone would be enjoying the free ale, food, and entertainment and this place would be empty."
Babbling. Now you're babbling, you foolish girl! Just shut up already before you make a fool of yourself. Her cheeks didn't flush, but part because she was too shocked at her reaction. She really needed to get out and start socializing more often.
"Free??"
~He blinked and sat a little more upright, still stradling the chair.~
"You didn't say free..."
~He looked around breifly, realizing it was rather quiet in here, pretty much empty, then quickly looked at Helbane.~
"You wanna go?"
