Hajia Portier
Location: The Tower
Time: An hour after sunset.
Pandora
The last hour was spent in the deadly silence of her private quarters, pretending to prepair for the evening that lay ahead of her. Now, however, she was seated in her traditional chair within the Meeting Room, freigning interest as William babbled on and on with the thing's about the Tower that she had apparently missed while deeply involved in her DayDeath. Needless information, really, for if she hadn't been woken it really wasn't dire business.
Nonetheless, she sat through it. She even tossed in a grunt or a nod of her head every once in awhile, futher giving the impression she was actually paying attention. There was only one piece of information that Pandora really needed to hear. The rest, just words.
"But other then that, Master, the Tower has been relatively quiet this day."
Finally. William fell silent, having recounted practically every blistering moment of the days events. Alerted of the sudden silence, Pandora snapped to attention and briskly nodded her head again. William, taking that as the usual sign, picked up where he left off, this time running through the schedule of meetings that Pandora had ahead of her.
For once, the agenda was rather small, and Pandora ever so greatful for it. She had but a single scheduled meeting this evening. Portier had requested the eve before that she be able to attend a private meeting with the Master of the City, and William had pencilled her in for just after sunset. That had been an hour ago, and still no Portier. Perhaps Pandora would get lucky and she would be a no show.
Promptly three hours after sunset, Pandora was officially off duty for the evening. Her first real time off since she had arrived back home. And it couldn't have come at a better time. After last eve's meeting with the four gathered NightWorlders, a quiet evening seemed just the fix.
When William reached the end of the list, she gave a slow nod of her head. "Thank you, William. Please inform me the moment my appointment arrives. I shall try to make a dent in this pile of parchments whilst I wait."
She didn't even hesitate, picking up the top loose parchment before William was even out of the room.
Portier
Drawing herself away from her busines, she donned her cloak provided and pulled up the hood. Slipping her way she found herself outside the tower. Sighing because she imagined that Pandora had no wish to see her or having anhything to do with her. She wasn't doing as well as she had hoped here. Shrugging off all feeling as William cranked open the slot she leaned in.
" Hajia Portier, upon appointment."
She leaned back from the door and waited. She wondered which limb she was going to lose.
Pandora
William struggled once more with the heavy wooden lock, before finally managing to remove it and open the door. Standing behind it, he waited until Portier entered, and then quickly closed the door behind her. Leaving her standing there in silence, William then slowly worked the lock back into place.
"If you'll wait here, I'll be glad to let Master know you are here."
Before the woman could protest and simply brush by him, William was halfway down the hall, his limping steadedly better then the day before. Pandora didn't even take her eye's off the parchment in her hand, even as she heard William enter. His arrival could only mean one thing, and before he made it any further into the room, Pandora spoke aloud.
"Send her in, William."
Shifting the paper so that it lie on the table infront of her, faced down, Pandora turned her eye's to the door, watching for Portier.
Portier
She entered the meeting room to find Pandora alone. Unsual, but not unexpected. She knew she was in for something, but she had done what she did for reasons Pandora could not control before. Lifting her brows ever so slightly she came to a stop a few paces infront of her, she bowed her head to her and then spoke calmly.
" ...Hello Master..."
She had vivid flashes of their departing ways and it saddened her. She had respected the woman so much she nay wanted to go, but if she hadn't history would have been reversed and the worlds as people knew it wouldn't exist.
"..I thank you for seeing me again.."[/b][/u]
Pandora
Pandora gestured absentmindedly towards one of the chairs at the table. She appeared bored, rather then the expressionless demeanor she usually wore.
"You wished a private meeting, Portier. I can give you no more then half an hour longer. I must be available for anyone of NightWorld for at least an hour before my evening off starts. Im certain William told you this last eve. Now, what is it that is so important you needed a private meeting?"
Her voice, though harsh, was nothing out of the ordinary. She was never softspoken and clearly now was no difference. In truth, Pandora did not know how she felt about Portier suddenly turning up. She had not seen her in quite some time, and their departure was anything but pleasant memories.
Portier
She moved to sit, a few chairs down from Pandora's right. Knowin' she didn't deserve to sit in the spot she had left. Pushing her cloaks hood from her she looked to Pandora.
"..I will not take too much time from you..."
Leaning forward she rested her arms on the table. and took in a deep breath
" I know this might fall upon deaf ears, but I feel deep regret for leaving you.. but my duty had to be fufilled.."
-It wasn't said dully, nor was it said with too much emotion.
" I trust, that everything has been well for you, as well as possible.. but I would like to return. I do not seek any recognition, I only wish to be here for you needs, as I was before. Though you have probably find a replacement. I will serve you with blind loyalty. Thus you already know"
She took a deep breath in pausing just a moment. and lowered her voice
" I know, that you do not wish to hear it, but I have missed you....And I'm very glad to see you doing so well..Congradulations on becoming the Master of this City....it has been far too long"[/b][/u]
Pandora
Somehow, she had already known this conversation was coming, she just didn't think Portier would jump so quickly into it. Pandora, however, was feeling anything but forgiving.
"You left of your own accord. Your duties have long since been over. When you left, I was a mere Master Vampire travelling from home to home. Now," Pandora gestured around the Meeting Room, "I have built a fine empire. Now, you are ready to return?"
Her voice held no emotion. Once upon a time, back when Raistlin and Portier had both been around, Pandora was soft spoken and kind. Those days had long since come and gone.
"My second in command has already been filled, and they do a remarkable job, Portier."
Actually, the job HADN'T been filled yet, but for the sake of arguement, Pandora was certain to pin the job off on the next person whom walked through the door. Alright, so she held a grudge. A long one.
"I shall not stop you from residing within Tranquility while the desire suits you. And I will gladly put in a good word for you up at the castle, should you be in need of a job. I do believe the Queen has recently had to let her chamberpot emptier go on maternity leave."[/b][/u]
Portier
Her lips twitched amusingly, she already knew of this. Turning her gaze from Pandora to her hands she thought for a moment, giving the appearance that she cared. Since when did what Pandora said have any weight on what she did anyway? Because she was her master now, made her think for a second. She wouldn't break any of her laws. Rules. Regulations. But she sure would make sure that she stood tall even if Pandora didn't wish it. Leaning back in the chair she raised her gaze to Pandora and kinked up an eyebrow.
" So you're trying to tell me, that even though you've learned to protect yourself.. you Nay wish for me to be around?"
She struggled to get it out but she knew deep down that wasn't what Pandora meant. She was always the stern one, and Hajia would never degrade her for it. Nor would she expect anything less.
"..You're second in command might be filled but reguardless of who you have they will never be me. "
She wasn't being arrogant, she was being realistic. Her orbs glittered over for a moment as she looked about the room before settling back on Pandora
"..If I wanted to clean out chamber pots, I would have asked for you to lick them spotless.."
Her tone was smooth and she shook her head.
" ..I figured if you're going to talk of feces, I would let you at least know what you were getting in to.."
She knew she'd pay for it, but she never backed down. She just held her lips to a thin line, and held her gaze to see the response. Of course not expecting anything but irritation and perhaps a bit of fury. She just waited..
Pandora
Pandora kept her temper in check and picked up the parchment she had been reading over before Portier had arrived, her eye's scanning the line until she found the place she had left off at. In an absent tone, she continued.
"Remember who you are talking to, Portier. I am not your charge anymore, nor am I the same Master Vampire whom once locked herself away in a chamber to gossip with you. I do think this meeting is over."
Pandora paused a moment, as she pretended to read the parchment, as if she all but dismissed the old aquintince sitting at her table. Finally, she spoke again, her eye's not leaving the paper infront of her.
"Should you wish to reconsider my offer, you do know where to find me."
Pandora fell silent then, her mind actually comprehending the words written infront of her. A long moment of silence would pass, before she would speak again.
"Oh, and Portier? Snide remarks will not benifit your current position. Ah yes, that's right. You do not have one, now do you?"
Her hand gestured, waving the parchment in the air.
"A mere fickle in the wind. Blowing wherever it goes. You started at the bottom, and upon your departure, you returned there. Do not expect handouts, Child. You will earn your way back into my good graces only when I see fit."[/b][/u]
Portier
She watched her. She was as always the one with the upperhand. Would Hajia ever admit it aloud? Definately not. Her lips fell from their tight line to just relaxed. She stood slowly. And moved around the table. Looking to Pandora for another moment she almost smiled.
" As you wish my dear, however..play nice with those you chose to keep close to you.."
It wasn't a threat but a suggestion..She knew of Pandora's plans this evening, and even if she was incompany, she was still in danger. Lifting her gaze to a spot somewhere above Pandora she thought for a moment.
" I've considered you're offer, and I nay find it to my liking....However..mine stands as well. If I have to work from the bottom I will...I'm not scared of a challenge..and I'll never receed on my words...."
-She pulled up her hood to her cloak and shrugged a little
"..You are right, I am nothin' to you.. I shall stay out of your way, You know how to find me..Though I know you won't..."
She moved to just before the door,
"...Don't worry about your sweet Symphony, I'll take ..Great...care of her.."
She then smirked that smile Pandora had once knocked off her face and nodded to her
" I'll leave now, as you have ordered. Good Eve Pands.."
She left, The last word rang out from her mouth, she knew the pet name she had once been almost allowed to speak in private...She felt fiesty, Pandora had her all wound up, she usually did.. Now..Pandora had plans this even with Tathar, Tapping her lip with the tip of her tounge, her brows rose. What was he doing now?
Pandora
Pandora didn't bother glancing up as Portier left. She was too busy clenching her jaws. The nerve that woman had. Pandora knew she was being baited and yet couldn't help the temper that flared within her. Pands. Ugh, that woman surely would be the end of her.
If not for the fact that she had saved Pandora's life all those many years ago, she'd have gladly had her head just for the mere sport. Of course, she'd have to lay a charge on her, but betrayal to the crown would have fit nicely.
The crinkle of paper distracter her temper, and Pandora glanced to her hand where the poor parchment was too tightly gripped to recover. Instantly releasing the paper, Pandora watched as it slowly fluttered to the table.
"William!"
She glared at the doorway until the Guard arrived, and then seeking out his eyes, only more furious when he lowered his gaze to the floor.
"Have someone keep an eye on Portier. Should she do anything against the laws, so much as one little toe over the line, haul her back in here, do you understand?"
Then, realizing she was taking her foul mood out on poor William, Pandora dropped her voice and spoke to him in the montotoned she so often used.
"Thank you, William. I appreciate it. That shall be all."
As William left her there, Pandora rose from her chair. Standing there, utterly still, the corner of her lips twitching in the ghost of a smile. She was there, but her mind, her eyes, were elsewhere as she invisioned all the possible punishments that she'd enjoy giving to Portier should the woman became too much of a distraction.
Portier
Returning from the tower, she seemed absolutely pleased with herself. With a glance passed back she could just see her Standing there in a Huff, about to tear the room apart. Satisfied that she had made herself clear as day. She moved on into the village. Walkin' down the streets. Undecided as to where she would entertain next.
